Half.com-Way OT
Question:
Jess: I’ll second your plug for Half.com. I buy most of the current fiction and nonfiction that I read there. Probably I’ll start selling there, too, since the local used-book dealers are paying pathetic prices even for current bestselling hardcovers and trade books. I also buy recent video releases for my kids there, at very low prices. My only beef is that just last week, Half.com announced it had discontinued accepting American Express charges. That’s the card I use on-line, and I am really peeved that they won’t let me buy books (videos, CDs, as well) with it any more! What is it with e-vendors and Amex? PayPal just discontinued taking Amex as well. Double grrr. – Anne —

Hi Anne, It must be because Amex is too safe, with those handy new throw away online numbers now. Recently I have started selling our old unwanted books on half.com. This was supposed to be hubby’s project, but somehow it ended up being mine. Its simple to sell there and they send you a check every two weeks or so. If you have *extra* books laying around, including textbooks, it is the place to go, to get a jump on the spring cleaning, and to avoid selling the unwanted books at a yard sale for a quarter. The site *may* be US only I am not sure. I’ve found it to be a good way to get some extra cash for things that are just taking up space. You can also sell VHS tape, DVD’s and CD’s there. Just check your e-mail, confirm, and put the thing in a padded mailer and you’re good to go. I buy my padded mailers from shippingsupply.com for a few cents each. A good way to make some extra non taxible $$, as this is view as cost recovery, by IRS purposes. And it is *anxiety disorder* friendly. : ) BTW I’m not spamming you, I just wanted to share a neat new find. Jess
