if you bought the midwest center for attacking anxiety program, read this
Question:
Hi Arthur, "Inner-Strength" (if I remember correctly). They basically suggest that if you have depression or anxiety, you should call their 1-900 phone number; at $3.99 per minute, with tiny text reading "for entertainment purposes only." ($4 per minute is roughly twice what you would pay a good therapist!!!)
I thought I heard it all. I quess I must have a bad attitude to not think of my anxiety/panic as entertaining!!! These people should be made to endure a doozie of a panic attack and lets see how *entertaining* they think it is…. And the saddest thing of this, is there will be some poor souls who will call……. Jackie:-) "Money talks…but all mine ever says is good-bye."

Hi Betsy, I purchased the Attacking Anxiety program and also received a follow-up phone call after I completed the program. I told them I was doing better with my anxiety and they still suggested an additional program for an additional fee of course. I thought they were just being caring by calling, but it was a sales pitch. Beware!

i bought it last june. this morning they called me and said they were following up.they asked me several questions. bottom line was yes i still have a problem with anxiety. so after still more questions i was told that i was a good candidate for their "personal coaching" program.not everybody is a good candidate but i am they said.there were no available consultants to explain it to me then but one will call me tonight.has anybody else received this phonecall and if so what did you decide to do? There was no mention of cost and i think it should be included.does anybody know anything about this?thanks.betsy

I believe the follow up call is to try to sell you another $200.00 worth of some extended program. The bottom line is YMMV and this program is no better, no worse then any othe CBT program. As I understand it, this program is just some more CBT-based collection of tapes and the like. They didn’t work for you which comes as no surprise. Of course they’re trying to earn some more. Don’t give them the opportunity to exploit your PD. Philip

Hi Betsy – I have the attacking anxiety program and although it hasn’t gotten me "perfect" yet, some of the tapes have really helped; even though it did cost alot….anyway, I looked into the personal coaching program too, and it was quite expensive!! I believe it was $1,200 for I think 16 weeks of phone calls and working with the coach weekly, you "might" get some tapes with that, but I don’t remember that part. I just thought WOW, I can’t afford that, especially if insurance won’t pay for it, so I decided against it. Now, I’ve found an anxiety disorder specialist who is willing to come to home to start out with, and insurance pays for it. We’re going to talk about which meds to try, and I’ll let everyone know how that turns out. Take care – Laura

And if you think that’s bad… Recently, I’ve been seeing television ads for something called "Inner-Strength" (if I remember correctly). They basically suggest that if you have depression or anxiety, you should call their 1-900 phone number; at $3.99 per minute, with tiny text reading "for entertainment purposes only." ($4 per minute is roughly twice what you would pay a good therapist!!!) And another recent ad with a similar presentation (I forget the product title) offers a 1-800 number for free literature on regaining control of your life; with some ghostly text mentioning God floating in the background and no apparent mention of the specific religion. There is no depth to which some people wont stoop to profit from depression and anxiety. (sigh) Best Wishes, Arthur
