Excess Spending

Question:

Excessive spending is usually just one of the many symtoms of mania. Other symtoms include grandiose thoughts, rapid and pressured speech, etc.. you can look up the others. In my opinion, if excessive spending is the only problem, then it is more like compulsive gambling and probably is a obsessive complusive disorder. Please consult the proper literature for more info. Hi, IMO, it is a sign of mania or hypomania. Is spending to excess when one cannot afford to do so considered to be obsessive compulsive disorder or could it be considered a manifestation of manic depression.

Response:

Usually when in a manic high,I love to spend money. This period represents the feeling of being able to do whatever you find makes you happy. It is dangerous, you must learn to control the spending.I try to only buy the things I know I will need in the near future, and then I become a stingy being. My depression makes it impossible to relate to spending. However, some people spend during depression, hoping it gives them a lift.Either way,the bills pile up and that along is enough to depress you to death. I hope someone else can give you more input.
