? about psychologist

Question:

My son is seeing a psychologist for his TS.  I sometimes wonder if he is using the right treatment.  How can I find out?  Is there any particular treatment to use or is it also like TS and everyone is different?

It depends.  He’s not trying to "cure" him with psychotherapy, is he?  If he is, run as fast as you can. Vicki

Response:

How much information do you have about the Psychologist.  Does he have experience with other TS patients.  Has he/she written any papers on TS/OCD/Anxiety/ADD.  Have you seen his/her personal resume(Cirriculum Vitae or CV). If the psychologist balks at giving you his/her CV, find someone else. The best people you can work with are Neuropsychologists and NeuroPsychiatrists.  They understand human behavior and brain chemistry. I went through a lot of bad practioners until I found the right help. This amounted to about 20 years of my life.  A bad psychiatrist can actually do more damage then good.  They can give you the wrong medications and in the wrong dosages. Fred in denver
