anyone with trichotillomania (hair pulling)?
Question:
I’m new to this group and I suffer from trich. I ignored it for a long time, but now the time has come to deal with it. Just thought I’d let you know I was among them on this board. I’d like to do that. And stress definitely makes my skin picking worse, but I’m not sure why it escalated into trich too a few times. Trich for me is sort of like skin picking anyway, and it’s part of the whole skin picking thing. I hope to see someone soon. Thanks. Jennifer

I had that happen to me. I haven’t been on any meds or had any therapy for trich, but I don’t do it anymore. It was really bad at a few points in my life, then it would go away for awhile or shift to another part of my body. Of course, the skin picking is still there. My obsessive behaviors sort of mutate every few years, from skin picking to nail biting to hair plucking. Jennifer

Thanks for writing Scott. I’ve never been able to pin-point WHY my OCD behaviors change. I know one time when my Crohn’s disease was really bad and wasn’t diagnosed yet, I was skin picking and hair pulling for hours everyday, so I can pin-point when it gets worse. And I have no idea why I suddenly get the urge to try some new behavior. I wish I could go to therapy and figure out what’s going on and maybe stop this. The skin picking hasn’t been as bad in the past year or so, but my Crohn’s has also been in remission and I’m not in college at the moment. Jennifer
