fear of world war 3 -> kosovo crisis

Dont worry. Nothing is going to happon to us. The circomstances of what caused WW1 and what is happoning there today are totally differnt. This is war being fought to creat the "New World Order" (the one President Bush was promoting) were we are all going to live in peace and love one another (and to educate those who do not understand this we are going to send in B52s and laser guided missles to teach them about love). The reason are leaders believe this kind of stuff is they are they all college educated and make a 100k+ a yr and dont live in or understand the real world. Why do U not have to worry yourself? U have OC and have your very own DSM IV phyciatric number. Which means U are not eligable to be cannon faulder to teach at the end of a gun love in other countries. As to the reports about how terrible this war is going to be the press is putting out. Look back to the Iraq war 8 yrs ago. The media was say how sopisticated there defenses were (the lates and most modern weapons in the world) and how terrible the war was going to be. When that war "ended" we had lost as many troops tanks and planes as we do each year in training. I know this last statment wont help much but here it is anyway. Dont worry U will be fine.

..I was discussing this all day with friends etc, and this evening with my 69 year-old Mother, who remembers W W W 2 very well. It is a RATIONAL fear to have. Even though we have irrational fears (OCD), we also have rational ones too. CBT is teaching me to distinguish between the two. Believe me, this is making a lot of people without OCD very depressed and nervous. It’s NOT just you. CanadaMan C

Hi, Yeh, this situation in Yugoslavia is making me nervous—got colitis tonight after watching the news. War is distressing to anyone except the most hardened or detached. However, I have to contrast how I feel about this versus the Iraqi war. During the Iraqi war I believed my "bad thoughts" were causing the launching of Scud missiles, that somehow my "bad thoughts" were making it worse. I got panicky to a great degree. I often think with OCD one takes normal fears or habits and pushes them to the nth degree. I am SOMEWHAT distressed about Kosovo but not to the debilitating degree it got during the Iraqi war. Think I learned from the previous experience, maybe. I just hope noone is experiencing now the horrible fears I had 8 years ago. It is bad in Yugoslavia, but it could very well be over soon as it was in Iraq. Peace, everyone, Jessica
