looking for book–shadow syndromes
Question:
<http://www.addult.org/syndrome.htm is an article entitled: ‘Shadow Syndromes: People with Mild Forms of Serious Disorders’ by John J. Ratey, M.D. The rest of the site (<http://www.addult.org/) has quite a bit of useful information, as well. — Trying to email me without removing ‘NOSPAM’ from the address will result in Bad Nasty Awful Things.
Response:
I heard about a book, something like Shadow Syndromes by Raly(?) Can’t find any mention of it. Has anyone heard of it?

Yes, it is quite popular now. Try Barnes & Noble or Amazon. My library has it, so look in your library or try inter-library loan. It is called "Shadow Syndromes: Recognizing and Coping with the Hidden Psychological disorders That Can Influence Your Behavior and Silently Determine the Course of Your Life". (Well, that’s what is says on the cover, anyway.) It talks about low-grade symptoms of some serious psychological problems. It can help you unerstand some of the things other people do and perhaps some of the things your do. It is by John J. Ratey and Catherine Johnson. — "If the Truth is Out There, what’s In Here?" – Nick Humphries

Ratey and Catherine Johnson. It’s ISBN if you need: 0-679-43968-4; You can also try Book of the Month Club or Quality Paperback Bookclub if you are a member… It can help you unerstand some of the things other people do and perhaps some of the things you do.
and hence help you cope with many of the so-called impossible/difficult people you may come across in life including yourself; The book talks about milder forms of 6 major ‘disorders’: Depression, ADD, OCD, Bipolar, Autism and Intermittent Rage Disorder. Extremely good book. These days, every entreupreuner seems to be writing self-help books and many of them even if not inaccurate, seem to be written in a week or two, (and hence only worth reading for a few minutes, perhaps in a grocery story when your non-ADD spouse is shopping for groceries)… This one looks like it took the authors some time to write and their caring and sincerity was transparent… Another book that can help understand people, others and ourselves is ‘Born to Rebel’ by Frank Sulloway [Pantheon Books, ISBN:0-679-44232-4]. It is based on 25 years of research and examines the role of Birth Order (I know it sounds pseudo scientific, which is why the author needed 25 years to obtain conclusive scientific findings) in Western History… His findings are quite applicable to non western cultures too (my opinion). -Sashi
