Question:
Hi all, I need some advice on Zoloft while breastfeeding…I want to feel relief from my anxiety and ocd but I’m afraid that it’s gonna harm my son. He’s 14-12 months old now and usually nurses 2-4 times a night and 3-5 times a day…Please help me out…Feel free to email or post…thanks so much!!! Also, I’m supposed to take 25mg a day for a week and then bump up to 50 mgs a day…also, how long does it usually take to notice any differences when using Zoloft? Thanks again… — — Sharon… www.onelist.com/subscribe.cgi/3KidsOrMore www.onelist.com/subscribe.cgi/Toddler-Tales —

According to Hale, this medication is preferred over other similar SRI’s like prozac. Pedicatric concerns: Of the four cases reported in the literature, only one infant developed benign neonatal sleep at age four months, which spontaneous resolved at six months. It’s relationship, if any, to sertaline is unknown. I have taken Zoloft for months, and am now switching to Celexa as the Zoloft was causing alot of nausea for me. Oh, I took it while nursing
No effect at all on Katy.

Hi, Just my .02… I have tried Zoloft, but quit when it made me feel ill. (note: nausea and abdominal pains should subside after your body adjust to meds, I was just overly sensitive). A lot of people who use a serotonin re-uptake inhibitor like Zoloft have had good success with homeopathic remedies such as St. John’s Wort. Good luck! Just a caution…Hale’s _Medications and Mother’s Milk_ advises *against* taking St. John’s Wort while breastfeeding, as very little research has been done. -Christine Mommy to Ryan, August 1, 1997 — http://members.home.net/cedwards – The Edwards Family Home Page!

St. John’s Wort is not homeopathic. It is a herbal recipe and Dr. Hale’s book and his website specifically recommend against its use in nursing mothers. — Marion Betor Baumgarten- Mother to die Wunderkinder -Martha (10!) Peter (7) St. John’s College, Annapolis, 1982
