Obsessive Thinking
Question:
I have a friend who has been having obsessive thoughts for about 2 years now. These thoughts keep changing as circumstances change. However, the person contends that he has no control over them and is constantly being overwhelmed by them to the point of not being able to concentrate on other matters. Is this OCD or something else? Also, the person is on Paxil (prescribed by regular MD, which has helped somewhat) but is not willing to seek professional therapy because of fear that the therapist "will not understand me". How can I convince him otherwise? Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanx in advance.
Response:
First of all Jack…admit to us that its YOU that you are writing about, not a friend. LOL. Don’t worry, its nothing to be embarrassed about. And yes, it does sound like OCD, and there are meds for this. See a shrink and join the club…which is this group. :=) Art Decco…nyc, usa
Response:
Hi Jack, Listening to your friend is a great start. However if your friend does not see a health professional he will not get a true diagnosis. It can be difficult to persuade people to seek help. Sometimes I find giving people numbers to call or places to seek info is a start. If and when your friend is ready he will seek help.
