Update & ???-Daughters OCD & Luvox

Question:

Just wanted to bring everyone up to date on what’s going on.  Julie has now been taking Luvox at 100 mgs. for around 6 weeks now.  It has definately helped with the depression that was being caused by the OCD. She tells me also that it’s helped considerably with the OCD, she says she still wants to tap things, etc., but can stop herself with little or no anxiety. The only side effect she’s having is sleeping WAY to much, if school wasn’t about to let out for summer, she would have to reduce her dose or try something else.   My questions are:  Do you think that this EXTREME fatigue will pass? The doc wrote her script for 6 months and didn’t mention increasing the dosage.  If the fatigue passes should we ask for an increase, if the OCD thoughts continue? If the dosage is increased again, will Julie have to go through the fatigue all over again? BTW, she did wean on the Luvox slowly, it was started at 25, then 50, now 100mgs. Thanks in advance for any help, or advice!      Take Care,              Vicki Redemption comes,To those who wait Forgiveness is the key. Helloooooo, Is there anybody in here??  Did anybody see my original post??       Just wondering,                   ?Vicki? My questions are:

Yes, Vicki, I saw it, but have no answers. I am also taking Luvox for depression.. 75mgs now.. and am very tired and feel like I’m sick or something I don’t know now if it’s still the Luvox or if I actually have a bug. I just called my doctor. So, I have NO idea about the fatigue.. but most people claim that a lot of ADs cause fatigue and that it passes.         Since your daughter has OCD and says it is helping that, I’d hang in there. I don’t understand the doc writing a 6mo. prescription and not saying much. That doesn’t sound right to me AT ALL, and I’m sure that others would agree. I think with OCD etc, you need a pdoc seeing her regularly to access the situation and make adjustments. Speak up to him/her and get some satisfaction or move on to someone else.

HI Vicki, I saw your post but I have nothing to contribute to it.  So I didn’t answer…..until now.  :) Cathy P.H.O.B.I.A. Off-line Panic/Anxiety Support Group Learn about us at http://community.nj.com/cc/phobia

This sounds very good. The only side effect she’s having is sleeping WAY to much, if school wasn’t about to let out for summer, she would have to reduce her dose or try something else.   My questions are:  Do you think that this EXTREME fatigue will pass?

She has been on the Luvox for a few months, so there is a chance it might lessen or stay the same. Fatigue is common with many of the SSRI anti-depressant. Being school is letting out, you have time to see if it improves. If there is little or no improvement, then she needs to make a decision about changing her med or living with the fatigue. Most of the SSRI AD`s can be quite effective for OCD, so she has options. When does she take her dose, changing the time might help a bit, it can`t hurt to try. Splitting the dose, 1/2 in AM and 1/2 in PM might help too….. The doc wrote her script for 6 months and didn’t mention increasing the dosage.  If the fatigue passes should we ask for an increase, if the OCD thoughts continue?

Why is the doctor not following up with her?  I am surprised that he gave you a script for six months with no directions as what to do. Being her OCD is not completely gone, she should be seen routinely. I would call him and ask him. If the dosage is increased again, will Julie have to go through the fatigue all over again?

No can say for sure. When I was on Paxil, two of my increases, saw no increase in side-effects or anxiety. This is a YMMV thing. BTW, she did wean on the Luvox slowly, it was started at 25, then 50, now 100mgs.

Does the doctor know that she has extreme fatigue?  Take care, and keep us updated. Jackie

I did make it sound as though the doctor doesn’t care, didn’t I.  I didn’t mean to, that was a lack of good communications skills on my part.  The doctor said to call and let him know how it’s going.   Julie doesn’t want to call him yet, as it’s just starting to work……. She is currently taking the whole 100mg. tab at bedtime.  Maybe we should try mornings or splitting the dose as you suggested. Thanks for your response,     Hope you are cool where you live!!          86 here in S. Carolina,                Vicki Redemption comes,To those who wait Forgiveness is the key.
