Wellbutrin helps with ruminations
Question:
Hello, I’ve been on SSRIs for 12 years, and they worked great, but after getting a bit tired of all the side effects, I asked my doctor about Wellbutrin, and he took me off 10mg Lexapro last month and onto 300mg Wellbutrin XL. It’s been about four weeks, and I think the Lexapro is finally out of my system, but I’m starting to get ruminations back again. I was wondering if perhaps my dosage is too low (I’ve had that before w/ SSRIs) or maybe Wellbutrin just won’t help my ruminations go away. I think I’m going to ask my doctor to increase my dosage to 400mg/day and then if I’m not better in a month, then switch back to SSRIs. I just didn’t like the side effets of the SSRIs, even Lexapro, which I found to be the best out of all the ones I had previously taken (Prozac, Paxil, Celexa). There’s no way in f’ing hell that I’m going to go back to living with my OCD/depression again. So, I guess what I’m asking for here is any advice or experience that people suffering from ruminations have when taking Wellbutrin, and if it works at all, compared to the SSRIs. Thanks a lot. Believe me, I know what it’s like to suffer with that crap. I did for 20 years, and it got MUCH worse when I hit puberty. Scott

wellbutrin doesn’t affect serotonin, and you need something that increases serotonin in the brain to help with ruminations. SSRIs are good, some tricyclics, and Effexor also works well. wellbutrin definitely made my OCD worse, i actually stalked a man i was obsessed with while i was on it (i’m so not proud of that), which is something i’d never done before or since. -kelly
