What med is best?

Question:

Please read some of the postings in alt.support.ocd.  My 8 year old daughter has been on luvox successfully for a few months.  She had been on anafranil and a host of other meds.  Nothing works for her like luvox. If there’s one thing I’ve learned about all of this is that different meds. work completely differently for different individuals.  Luvox works for her without side effects.  Please let me know if I can answer any other questions.  Barry

Response:

We thought Luvox was going to be our saving grace for our son.  He’s been on it for 2 months and although we have seen some improvements, the ocd is not gone as we had expected.  When we upped the dosage too much he started having nightmares and hallucinations.  We backed down and he has been on 75 mg for 4 weeks now and is stable, but not free of his ocd.  I know one member in the group said his daughter is a different person thanks to Luvox, so it really depends on the person.  Barry, where are you? Nanci

Response:

Nanci, I’m still here, although tomorrow I’m headed for Puerto Rico for a week.  Could never have gone on vacation with my daughter during her OCD days, it would have been torture.  We better not forget the Luvox!  Still working wonders. I’ll catch up with you in a week. Barry

Response:

Try prozac.  It worked miracles for my children.  Darcie

My son is using Luvox. (He’s almost nine) It took 2-3 weeks to see results, but it did help resolve a time when his OC symptoms were interfering in his life in a big way. He was so caught up (stuck) in certain thoughts that he couldn’t do schoolwork or anything else, and would work himself into a frenzy if anyone tried to direct him into other activities. It didn’t make the symptoms disappear, but I do think it helped. Could you tell me what you mean when you say "I’m getting stuck a lot"? What does it feel like? I am trying to understand what my son is experiencing. Thank you. Cathi
