I really like this newsgroup

Question:

I am soon graduating from university so right now my stress levels are high because of exam time and then theres the thoughts of what I plan on doing after and then waking up early and then and then and then…..theres a lot of and thens. I feel as though this newsgroup is good because I can talk to my kind of people. I mean some of us are not as bad as others but everyone (or mostly everyone) understands. I got a prescription about 2 weeks ago for Prozac. Its only 10 mgs and the psychologist told me I can start off by taking 5 mg by breaking it in half. I carry that prescription around with me everywhere. It has really been on my mind lately. Should I take it, shouldn’t I? Right now I am not in the worst state. I have gone through periods where I couldn’t watch tv shows or movies where there was a person in it that died (i.e three’s company). If I would even hear the theme song I would freak out. Anyways there is so much I can say on the subject about all this. I could probably write a book. So what do you think? Meds or no meds.

I used to have such a puke phobia, if I even saw the *word* "vomit". I would get panicky. So I understand how bad it can spread. Anyways there is so much I can say on the subject > about all this. I could probably write a book. So what do you think? > Meds or no meds.

My first instinct is that if your OCD is not really bad, to try and use other techniques to overcome it. Most meds have side effects. That being said, the fact that you went to all the trouble to go to the doctor and get a prescription tells me you must be suffering. A favorite quote of mine is "the only failure is not to try" so perhaps it wouldn’t hurt to try the 5 mg tablet for a week and then, if no unpleasant side effects occur, up it to 10 mg. Try it for a few weeks. If it agrees with you fine, if not stop it. NK

you might find that Paxil is more sedating than Prozac and will help calm your nerves.  OTOH, you might also find it to be so sedating that you won’t be able to concentrate on studying for your exams. — Steven L.

Will the sleepy feeling ware off like most side effects?  I’m thinking of switching my med to paxil because the Zoloft is causing incontenance.  I don’t feel I’m ready for the Depends under garment crowd.
