Anafranil was one of the first drugs shown to be effective  in treating OCD so it is often given as first choice. It is a tricyclic antidepressant and like other meds in this class it has a number of effects on neurotransmitters other than serotonin so it causes a number of side effects. Several drugs have come along which seem to work only on serotonin in the brain and they all work for OCD in a number of people. They are Luvox, Paxil, Prozac and Zoloft( alphabetical order of brand names used in the US) It is impossible to tell which drug will work best for you with out trying them. Hi all.  I have been taking anafranil for about two years now, and the side affects of the medication are quite strong, strong enough for me not to be able to take the level of medication I think I need.  I talked to a collegue with OCD a few weeks ago, he had started taking Luvox and the results were fantastic.  Could anyone tell me the differences between the two medications? And why Luvox seems to be one of the present drugs of choice for treating ocd? I had never heard of it until recently.  Of course, this is due to my withdrawl from interest in my treatment since I can only handle so much anafranil..I got complacent in the sort-of recovery I had.  and also, is the semi relief I’m getting on anafranil more important than a "what-if"-based- hope? Thanks in advance for any answers. j —–== Posted via Deja News, The Leader in Internet Discussion ==—– http://www.dejanews.com/   Now offering spam-free web-based newsreading
