Question:
My dr started me on 200. Yeah-I was bad off. But boy can I tell you 200 to start sure will kick the mania out of you in .5 seconds. LOL I had to drive to work the next day, I was a counselor for teen boys that committed adult crimes and were court ordered at the academy I worked at—–well try conducting group therapy with 200 seroquel in you. Then charting. OMG I wanted to keel over. I think 700 would have been much for me. I have a friend who is schizophrenic (sp) and she was on 1000 and never missed a beat. I have not heard of Amisulpride. Is it an antipsychotic? The only other antipysychotic I have been on is risperdal. It helped my anxiety a lot. I slept on it as well-in fact I slept too well that my mom moved in with me (well she moved herself and a suitcase in) in case my children woke at night. I was gone while taking that in combo with my other nightly dose meds. No sleep for 7 days is rough. I have spouts like that. My longest was near 3 weeks-I was soon afterwards-dx bipolar. LOL Wonder why. Sarah – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – LOL That is funny. My family dr loves when I tell him about my psychiatric drug dosages and effects. He is like "some dosages kill people, and you just keep right on going" LOL Until seroquel but hey lol I remember when I started Seroquel 25mg put me to sleep nicely for a couple of hours but I had to just keep upping and upping the dose until I got to the max 700mg and it didn’t even phase me. I then started to get porky from it and asked my shrink if I could try Amisulpride, boy was that a mistake. It was like a nuclear missile exploding in my head I couldn’t sit still, I couldn’t not sit still I couldn’t sleep for 7 days, longest ever sleep depravation for me. I tried group therapy in two different circumstances and I hated it. I was told to be quiet and that I intimidated other members of the group. WHATEVER was my rely. I ended up quitting and firing that therapist (she was also doing my individual at the time.) Heh, same thing happened to me but I used slightly stonger language <g The internet is wonderful because you get real people, with related "symptoms" so it is validating rather than just talking with a T for however long. Like I said, my name is Sarah. I am in my mid twenties. I have two children and a wonderful sigfnicant other, who is also Bipolar and ADD. I am dx with Bipolar, OCD, and anxiety disorders. I currently take lithium, klonopin, and trileptal. I attend therapy 2x a week and its quite successful in allowing me to lead a very productive life. I have recently graduated college with two degrees, one being Psychology and the other, Education. I work part time right now and hope to be full time in the near future. I was dx 6 months after my second child was born. I tend to be on the hypomanic/manic side of the spectrum. I also tend to go off meds when I lose those for too long
I like to ramble when I write so bear with me! LOL Thanks for reading my post and I look forward to meeting you all. Sarah

I met a lot of people that did that job when I was younger
You would have been stuggling to do the therapy with 200mg in you and I would be attempting to participate with the therapy with 200mg in me <g I have not heard of Amisulpride. It is an antipsychotic, yeah but without the weight gain and sedation side effects in the main. Unfortunately it’s not available for you guys in the states. I’ve seen it work wonders for friends in hospital but for me it was a disaster. Love SR <snip

LOL Thank you. I don’t have too many complaints about them. I take 1 mg of Klonopin, 3x a day. When I am very manic/anxious-it doesn’t help me a lot except maybe bring me down a step or two. When I am hypomanic it levels me off and when I am depressed-it puts me to sleep pretty fast. I cant take ssri’s so I am pretty much *messed up* when I am depressed and the klonopin doesn’t help. Thankfully I am more manic and I can tolerate that. Others cant, LOL but I can. Lithium hasn’t had any side effects for me. I was on 1500 mg and now down to 600 (I tend to go off meds easily…..errrrrrrr….ummmmmmm) lol I have never had a level over .5 on lithium. My latest one on 600 was .2. My lowest has been .01. LOL And that is taking them consistently-everyday, twice a day. My dr said that I am one of the few that metabolize it very quickly. (Why cant I metabolize food this fast?) But overall-I don’t get the shakes like I did on depakote and some of the other stabilizers. How does it work for you??????? Sarah

Hi Sarah, Your K dose is really high. Over 15 yrs. mine has not been raised over 1.0mg; i now take 1.50 mg and that increase is due to an unsuccessful attempt to withdraw. The high K dose (3.0 in your case) may compensate for the lower than usual lithium dose (900mg) – they do use K as an anti-convulsant which is supposed to be related to bipolarism – that i do not know. As for metabolizing the li fast – did your dr. tell you that? Because lithium is not metabolized – it goes straight through the kidneys – it is infact THE ONLY psychiatric drug that is not metabolized. Squiggles — Most of the time, I don’t know what I’m talking about. - Squiggles

Yes, My Doctor did tell me that. He didn’t explain the exact bodily processes that occur but however it happens, I don’t absorb it. I was on 1500 mg on lithium at one time, I was on 2100 mg of trileptal at one time-I am not completely medication resistant but I am to most drugs. They have weird effects of me. Seroquel is the only thing that knocks me on my buttocks. I could take 6-7 meds at a time (combos of antipsychotics, stabalizers, bezos) and still wouldn’t get calm. My therapy is my main drug. I am a firm believer in cognitive therapy for myself and have been able to come down off so many drugs. I hate not having a "quality of life" when I am doped up. I am not a good mother/student/employee/person when I am drugged. The klonopin is a little high, but to be honest I have to take 4 sometimes and I have the drs ok for that. It is the only drug that seems to be able to bring me down quickly without killing me like seroquel did. OH I HATE THAT DRUG lol No offense to anyone but it was torture on my body. I am pretty stable as long as I stay on my meds and in therapy. Sarah

Hi SarahMarie, I think it’s a good idea to use cognitive therapy as an adjunct. Sorry you had trouble with drugs – 1500 li would have knocked out an elephant imho (just kidding); Sometimes, i think i could use some cognitive therapy — i rely heavily on the net for that. I love the net and talking to people, exchanging ideas, etc. – it is very much like group therapy. Squiggles

The internet is wonderful because you get real people, with related "symptoms" so it is validating rather than just talking with a T for however long. Sarah
