Obsessions with Computer.

Question:

Funny, but I just posted here for the first time a few minutes ago and spoke about how I only have a few compulsions and that most of my problems are with obsessing.  The compulsions that I have are repetitive hand and foot rubbing and sometimes I like to pick my head at night while I watch TV.  But then I saw your posting on obsessions with computers and remembered that I also have a compulsion that revolves around the computer.  It thought, and wished, that you were going to report similar experiences with the same kinds of compulsions that I have with the computer, but yours are quite different.  I think that your actions here are a common symptom of OCD.  Either it has to do with an obsession with cleaniness or being very orderly or something on those lines.  But it does sound like a typical OCD characteristic I might add.   What I do, I don’t think is quite as common. When I started here on AOL with all of my chatting in chat rooms and E-mailings and postings, I started to envision my fingers typing out words that I hear when I am not even around my computer.  I might be watching TV or at work, for example, and hear a word or think about a phrase that somehow catches my attention, and then I envision my fingers typing it out on the computer over and over again until I think that it is fast enough and good enough.  I do this a lot during the day but it isn’t that time consuming or annoying to me so I forgot that I even do it when I was talking about my compulsions in a posting that I made just minutes ago!

Response:

Is there anyone else who has their computer cordoned off to a small room where the door must remain shut in order to prevent dust from somehow entering the case, and "messing up" the insides.  I use my computer in just such an isolated environment for just such a reason. I assume this is irrational, but maybe I will end up extending my systems useful life in the process. 150mg Luvoxd/day does not change this obsession for me. Anyone have a clue as to what I am thinking here. Posted with Spam Hater – see http://www.compulink.co.uk/~net-services/spam/
