Question:
Hi Group, I’ve been living with ocd for many years. I’ve been through therapy. I’m a writer and I’m just curious as to how many of us are there out there. I suppose it helps to know that one isn’t the only one. How is everyone? P.S. is this as good as it gets jamalkhan
Response:

Hi Jamal, You’re not the only one. I have OCD. I have had very bad times in the past but this last year has been one of my best in many years. I’m 32, about to get my BA, traveled abroad for the first time last summer, live on my own for the first time (I love it!), have a new relationship with a groovey dude, have a few new good friends and I feel generally quite happy. A few years ago, it was the opposite. Major OCD, depression, no friends, slept all day (hiding from OCD in bed), afraid to leave my house, no job, hopeless feelings, no thoughts of happiness, felt like life was not worth living, useless, what’s the point? etc … I went on meds, did CBT and a lot of personal therapy and made a lot of changes in my life. I still feel anxious and have obsessive thoughts but they get easier and easier to ignore. I’m in the (for me very long) process of coming off meds – I’m at 10mgs of Paxil, from 40mg, a day but this has taken about 16 months or so and I plan to take another 6 to 12 to come right off. I believe ‘it gets’ as good as you can make it. With good treatment, support, humour, etc … life can be pretty good! — monkey
