Sure is. I find myself zoning out a lot, forgetting things, etc…  Its annoying for my partner. So unless I am really interested in something, I am mostly in my own world. Lain

It doesn’t sound like it. Look around you. People stare off into space, space out, zone out, etc. all the time. It’s completely normal. To be a ritual in the OCD sense of the word, you would probably have to, for example, stare a ‘certain’ way at a ‘certain’ object for a ‘certain’ length of time without interuption or blinking. Also, it would be something you feel you ‘have’ to do (in a ‘certain’ way) as a way to remove harm, danger, risk or whatever from some thought or event you’re thinking (obsessing) about. Most important though is that the ritual has to be bothering you and greatly interferring with your life to be an OCD ritual.

My memory has never been very good, but I’m pretty sure I have ADD in addition to possibly OCD.  Couldn’t ADD/OCD be the cause of this?  I don’t have any trauma from my childhood that I know of, which I think is pretty much necessary for someone w/ DID. Could be DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder) or some mild form of it. Do you suffer from memory loss? Lain "James boston" <bostonja…@charter.net> wrote in message

Hi, I’m new here, and I think I might have OCD.  I’m going to see a psychiatrist sometime within the next week or two.  Anyway, I was doing a little research online, and I came across something about a staring ritual. Now, ever since I can remember I would "zone out" and notice that I was just staring off into space.  Could this be a staring ritual?  I mean it isn’t something I think about at all.  I usually don’t even notice I’m doing it. I’m wondering if this could be a staring ritual, and if not what WOULD constitute a staring ritual? Thanks, JD

Response:

I "zone out" a lot myself- I am constantly getting preoccupied with my own thoughts. An honest to goodness staring ritual would be one where you are not aware of things going on around you (i.e. someone could all your name or touch you and you would not respond). If you are having those type, I suggest seeing a neurologist and possibly getting an EEG to rule out petit mal seizures. NK "James boston" <bostonja…@charter.net> wrote in message
