Tics and Magnesium Deficiency

Question:

My 5 year old daughter was recently diagnosed with TS.  After doing some reading, I decided to try her on a magnesium supplement (chewable, with calcim and Vitamin D.) Her tics were reduced about 75% in the next few days, and they have stayed that way.   Then her hair test came back showing her very much deficient in magnesium.  I don’t know why this is working or why she is so deficient, but I thought I would pass it on.  She will get a blood test to confirm it next week. Here’s the weird part.  Her pediatric neurologist told me that most of the TS kids she sees are also very bright, like my kid.  The allergist/biological psychiatrist told me that magnesium deficiency is also very often found among very bright people. The doc at California Pacific Medical Center who is opening their alternative Health and Healing Clinic told me that all TS kids should get tested for various nutritional deficiencies like magnesium and amino acids, etc. Anybody else heard about this?

Magnesium (amino acid chelated calcium-magnesium Schiff brand) helped my son for 2 years before he had an OCD or TS diagnosis.  Eventually I had to add the rest of his supplements to keep his symptoms at bay, though (after going through 2 years of med trials and failures).  I explain this in my homepage:  (http://members.aol.com/BonnieGr/index.html) I am not sure if there is a deficiency in all TS cases of magnesium or any of the vitamins and minerals in my protocol, but there may possibly be a therapeutic effect, where the supplements act as drugs.  I wish I had the time right now to further my research into the mechanism behind this, but I have found volumes of therapeutic benefits of magnesium in the scientific literature.
