Hi Cindy, Congratulations to you and your son.  I have OCD and also have a 18 (19 on July 13) y/o son with OCD and other co-morbids, so I understand. This is so wonderful to read, thank goodness he has a Mom like you.  And you do a lot for us here, reading this put a large smile on my face and made my day. Cindy and son, That is absolutely fan-f*cking-tastic!! I can imagine how ‘freed up’ he (and you) must be feeling! Great news! I completely understand that the things he has done are a "a lot" though people without OCD may not understand. I remember how I felt like I had just climbed Everest when I peed in a public can after years of avoidance! I was on top of the world! Congratulate him from me. I hope he gains a lot of confidence in himself and does not get frustrated by any possible ‘down days’ that may happen in the future. ‘Down days’ are normal — it’s called the OCD Bunny Hop ;-) I still have down days but they have become less frequent and less ‘down’ over the year. If he has any – just tell them it’s normal – two hops forward, one back. — monkey .sdrawkcab dootsrednu tub sdrawrof devil si efiL

Cindy, What great news!  Your son’s victories are great accomplishments and I’m so happy that he is moving forward with his BT. Many in the NG including myself know how difficult this is and every triumph his has is a very large success. Tell your son I said ‘bravo’ !!! You are a wonderful Mom!  There will be many more good days to come. Hi All, As many of you know, my 18 (almost 19) yr old son has severe OCD.  I am proud to say that he is benefiting greatly from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.  Exposure-Response Prevention is a success for him(and for all of his family).  It is a mixed bag of terror (to start), anxiety (which lessens) and triumph (can’t ever get enough of that!).  His days are becoming freer as he tends to his responsibilities and has time to enjoy himself.  He cut the grass today and edged and weed-whacked and jumped in the pool with his little brother and played for a long time. It may not sound like much to some of you, but I have been quite emotional about it and rejoice in his freedom. He was even able to go into the garage to get out the lawn equipment (a VERY contaminated place for him) and put it back.  All this made him very anxious but he did it anyway and is feeling pretty proud of himself.  I simply can’t believe how far he has come. I went to my doctor a couple of days ago.  He has been treating me for depression (go figure!) and I felt I was ready to come off the meds. He asked me if I had a support group or someone to talk to.  I assured him that I did and started to tell him about this newsgroup.  I want to take this opportunity to thank all of you for being so supportive and welcoming.  I know that without all of you and your endless support and patience, I would be a lunatic by now.  I have been posting on this ng since Feb.
