Anxiety/Panic attack and heart trouble

Question:

If you’ve seen a cardiologist and he/she had no explanation for your symptoms, consider getting a second opinion.  After that, you may find comfort in accepting that it is a symptom of PD.  There are about 50 symptoms…and everyone is different.   I have found that once I accept something…it becomes easier to deal with and conquer. I hope this helps some. Blessings, RosemaryConte – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Hello, I have anxiety and panic attacks alot. I have seen my Dr. and cardiologist beacuse of some strange heart palpitations that I get after or before a panic attack. My heart just beats really strong once every minute for about 15 min. Has anyone ever experience anything like these? or any heart trouble? Thanks WR

Hi — Just to add to Carlene’s assurance, I get episodes of the same thing (PVC’s).  I had my first episode in 1984, as a college freshman.  I was terrified.  As you can see, it’s 14 years later and I’m still here.   In my case, the PVC feels as though someone tossed a tennis ball from a short distance and it bounces off my chest.  Yes, it is a bit distracting, but apparently not deadly or even harmful.  – Jordan Singer

Hi. I posted a question like this a few weeks back, and was helped out alot here, so I’ll pass what I know on to you. If your heart is beating "really hard" once a minute, it really is nothing to worry about. You probably are having PVCs, which are generally benign and a symptom of anxiety. A PVC is when the heart beat originates from somewhere other than the sinus (usually the ventricle). PVC stands for Preventricular contraction. Some people describe the feeling as a flutter, others as a hard heart beat. I’m the latter, like you! I was assured by a number of people here as well as my doctor that there is nothing to worry about. Talk to your doctor about it. They’re the best person to give you the answers you seek! I’m glad you added that last sentence because, although several deviations of *normal* hearbeats do occur quite commonly in PD-sufferers it is always best to rule out a heart condition by tests in the hospital run by a cardiologist. Philip Peters – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text –

Palpitations and other strange phenomena concerning heartbeats are quite common in PD-sufferers. When a heart condition is ruled it is nothing to afraid of (hehe, I don’t like it any better than you do). If necessary it is possible to to something against palpitations by the use of a beta blocker like Inderal. Ask your doctor. Are you on any meds now? Medds against anxiety/panic can work for the palpitations as well. On the other hand palpitations may also be a side effect of a med. YMMV. Hope this helps some. Philip Peters

Sounds like typical PD to me.  What did the cardiologist say?  And did you mean beats really strong once a SECOND for about 15 minutes?  Normal heartbeat is 60-80 beats a minute – that would put you at 60.  I think some of us are just more tuned to *feeling* it.  I do when when I get anxious – but it doesn’t bother me anymore, I get swayed by sweating and feeling depersonalized.  Ain’t PD grand?  Not. From what I have gathered, it is a symptom of anxiety and PD.  As long as you have had your heart checked it shouldn’t be anything to worry about.  Mine pounds so hard sometimes I can feel it in my stomach and actually see it moving. Lee feeling silly lately…must be a side effect ;)
