Anyone feel pressure about taking Xanex

Question:

Hi, I’ve had PA/GAD for the last 6 years.  I was first treated with Xanex and it worked.  I got a lot of guff from my parents about taking Xanex.  When I was first diagnosed with PA/GAD my doctor prescribed .25 mg 3 times per day.  I was also on Glucotrol for high blood sugar.  I had a constant pain in my abdomen.  I called the doctor about it and he kept increasing my dose of Xanex till it got to 4mg per day.  This kept me asleep during every free moment I had.  My parents would call or come over and always find me asleep.  That’s why they kept pressuring me to get off Xanex.  My mother even had the nerve to call my doctor and yell at him.  I went to an Internist and she said that my liver was 20% larger than normal and the pain I was experiencing was due to my liver being swollen.  Then that nut wanted to double me dose of Glucotrol which I later discovered was causing my liver to swell.  By this time I was addicted to a 4mg per day habit of Xanex.  Xanex is great but if you take more than you need it will screw you up bad.  I finally gave in to the pressure and gradually came off Xanex and was left disabled.  I couldn’t work.  I lost my house.  Things got bad.  I felt like I abandoned my wife and children.  I was living in my parents house which turned out to be a nightmare being that I was 36 years old. And to top it off I was having the nastiest panic attacks ever.  The doctors I went to see kept prescribing a bunch of antidepressants.  All of them made my problem worse.  The horrible thing about all this is that it didn’t have to happen.  All I needed was to lose 20 lbs.  That got rid of the blood sugar problem.  Also .25 mg of Xanex 3 times daily is all I needed to keep the PA/GAD under control.   I was a Biomedical Engineer working in operating rooms repairing diagnostic and life support systems often times during actual surgery.  It was a lot of pressure.  While I was off sick for a year I trained myself on pc support.  Now I’m a Systems Administrator for a good company.  I bought a new house.  Not the best but it’s mine. Sometime doctors and parents can ruin your life if you let them.  Anyone had a similar experience? Rob

From VEDA http://www.teleport. com/~veda/ (The Vestibular Disorder Association) Because the vestibular system interacts with many other parts of the nervous system, symptoms may also be experienced as problems with vision, muscles, and thinking and memory. In addition, people with vestibular disorders may suffer headache and muscular aches in the neck and back, increased tendency to suffer from motion sickness, and increased sensitivity to motion and bright lights. Patients with vestibular disorders often report fatigue and loss of stamina and an inability to concentrate.  Difficulty with reading and speech may occur during times of fatigue.  When these symptoms are constant and disabling, they may be accompanied by irritability, loss of self-esteem, and or/depression. The symptoms of vestibular loss caused by ototoxic compounds are not unique to ototoxicity; they resemble those from any other cause.  They can include but are not limited to
