medication
Question:
Dear Camille, A good online source for info about medications for depression is at the following web address–run by an expert psychiatrist with 30 years experience as professor of psychiatry as well as a private practice. I hope you find some clues there to share with your psychiatrist. http://www.psycom.net/depression.central.html Suzanne Nicole "Mental Health Recovery Sources" Website for Mental Health Consumers at — My Home Page – http://members.aol.com/SuzaNicole (free answers available for many practical concerns & links to expert sites online)

I am searching for help with medication problems for treating my clinical depression. I had been taking lowdose desipramine and lithium for years with success. Over the past year or so though, I have not been getting any relief from the meds and my doctor has tried to increase the desipramine or add an additional med with no luck and especially horrible headaches. I am getting desperate for a solution and that is why I am on the internet. Anyone have any suggestions or resources? Camille

A good way of looking at things – the bathtub and thats exactly what its like, some days I feel great, other days I feel shit and let little things worry me and perhaps get a bit paranoid. The thing is I am not depressed all the time so I am not sure if I should go back on the happy pills or not, the doctor has said to me – well, you know what they are like, do you want to take it or not take it?. Hmmmm Dunno. Chris
56.pri.tnt-1.mcm.pa.stargate.net… – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I get severely depressed occasionally but not all the time. Does anyone know of a drug I can take which will make me feel better at the time without having to go on long term medication (which I have tried before and is hard to get off) As I understand it, some OB/GYN/endocrinologists will prescribe a relatively shorter acting SSRI (like say zoloft over prozac) for 1-2 weeks a month (the week prior to and during menses). And while that does make some sense, particularly since you know that the montly mood swing is chemical, there’s also something about it that doesn’t make sense. Basically, I think of it like we’re in a bathtub of moods. Antidepressant’s are used to help maintain the water temperature. If you’ve ever sat in a small bathtub, then you know how hard it is to maintain the temperature. Constantly adding hot water…ooops too hot, gotta add a little cold water….ooops too much water, gotta let some out….etcetera. What you really want is to be sitting in a realitvely larger pool of water that’s got a heater in it set to the correct temperature. That way if someone dumps a cold drink into your pool it’s not such a big deal for too long. Some people have a hard time keeping their temperature even. They need to get into a larger pool that’s got better temperature control. Just some food for thought…… Sincerely Stewart —

Yeah, go for a long run etc. Other than that, you’re stuck with long term meds. — John T. May Hope is curative

No. — The opinions given above may be mine. They might also just be what I feel like saying right now, okay?

*waving* to Jill — I am glad you are feeling better. Families from my opininon are usually the last to accept that one of their family members has depression. Melia – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -I haven’t been here for awhile but I just felt the need to be able and I felt this was the best place. I was recently diagnosed with bipolar. I am now taking five different medications and am feeling much better. For the first time in a long time I am actually feeling non suicidal. However, my family doesn’t think I’m any better. They hate the fact that I take all these meds and say I do every thing I do just to get attention. There may be a bit of truth to what they say, but I do believe that the meds are making me feel better. Was just wondering if anyone ever had this problem and how they coped with it. Jill I.

I have just been through a week of no medication as I tried to kill myself last tuesday. Feeling less suicidal but very depressed. I am hyper and not sleeping. Anyway to get to the point. She has given me Citalopram 20mg, I know that it is a antidepressant. I do not know anthing else about it and can not find out much either. Has any one had this? is it any good? what are peoples experiences with this? If you don’t mind me asking. I know the medication will take a few weeks to work. I want to know if it will calm me down. I have been having alot of panic attacks and feeling restless. Thanks for listering. TIA — ZORC;) LIVE LONG AND PROSPER .. ….. . . …… ……. . ……. . .

You shouldn’t drink much alcohol with SSRIs as they increase the sedative effect of the alcohol. Depressed people shouldn’t drink alcohol as alcohol is a depressant. I find no harm in having one or two drinks once or twice a week. In fact, now that I drink considerably less than I used to, I enjoy each drink more. I am not a doctor. Bri — Drink green tea – it’s good for you.
