Paxil Info.
Question:
Hi guys, it is me again.:) Things have been going pretty good for me lately until today. I was interviewed for a clinic that treats PD sufferers here in Vancouver and then turned away because I have just switched over to 20 mgs a day of Paxil. They (the researchers) wanted me to be on stable medication for at least three months. Needless to say, I was disheartened somewhat, but my real fear lies in the Paxil. I found that at 20mgs, I suffered teeth chattering like a cheap dime store toy and I am perpetually cold. But my real fear is that I do not know that much about Paxil. If anyone could please email me info about addictive properties and withdrawl symptoms or just about anything, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanking you in advance,
Hi Gary – ummm.. *what* addictive properties?
AFAIK, SSRIs are completely non-addictive, though I suppose it is possible to develop a psychological addiction to anything (which is my excuse for all the cashew nuts!). I’ve heard it claimed (not convincingly) that a *very* few people suffer unusual symptoms if they stop taking Paxil, but I have no information to confirm that. However Paxil is regarded as non-addictive and does not cause dependency. The teeth chattering and feeling cold, however, are definitely worth reporting to the doctor who prescribed this med. for you. I hope others can give you more info. on Paxil… Good luck, — Gary Cooper

To everyone that responded, thank you:) I have talked to my doctor about the symptoms and he said that it was a normal reaction to a new drug coming off of Ativan. Sigh. The only addiction he said that could occur was indeed pyschological but not physical which can be just as bad, but I have been there before. A special thank you to Arthur, your humour has made my morning. Thanks. Gary — Every crowd has a secret lining…

But my real fear is that I do : not know that much about Paxil. Um… I haven’t heard of such side effects with Paxil. Although, it is common for anxiety levels to rise when changing dosage, so these effects may wear off in week or two. Still, best to be on the safe side and call your doctor about it. : If anyone could please email me info about addictive properties and : withdrawl symptoms or just about anything, I would greatly appreciate it. : Thanking you in advance, I don’t believe Paxil is supposed to be very addictive, but honestly I cant say for sure. Personally, I dont care if Paxil is addictive or not, as long as it keeps me from having any more hideous panic attacks. : Every crowd has a secret lining… You mean like the women’s slips at a NOW ralley?

I had the same side effects, and then some…. argh. Well, I quit Paxil, thank goodness – I just couldn’t stand it… I was basically going crazy. But 20mgs is just TOO much to start at for most people it seems. If I were to try it again, I’d start with 5 mgs at the most a day. (I’d also be ready to boost my Xanax!). -ShyPuppy <who keeps swearing not to get involved in Paxil threads :(
