resources for driving-related panic
Question:
Hi, I’m new to this group. I experience panic attacks while driving. First one occurred nearly eight years ago. Past several years I’ve been feeling good about driving, however, I’m suddenly experiencing them again. I would be most interested in learning of any resources (books, tapes, whatever) that specifically address overcoming driving-related panic attacks. Please feel free to respond to the site or to me directly at Thanks, John

Dear John, Welcome to ASAP!! What helped me alot when I was having a very hard time driving, (I actually stopped driving twice for extended periods because of my fear), was Cognitive Behavioral therapy. Have you ever done CBT? I found these two items at a anxiety bookshop from the following website: http://panicdisorder.about.com/msubbook.htm Driving Far from Home by Edmund J. Bourne A self-help tape for those who are phobic of going too far from home. Uses relaxation, visualization, desensitization and other techniques. Cassette Driving Freeways by Edmund J. Bourne A self-help tape for overcoming the fear of freeway driving. Explains 6 freeway driving phobias, how to assess which problem(s) you have, and what you can do about it. Cassette Take care, Jackie
