Taking Ativan

when i started on paxil i took adivan 3-4 times a day and weaned down to once a day after 6 weeks. never had a problem comming off the adivan. use it when you need it..its better then the jitter. good luck p.s. i havent needed the adivan in over 18 months now…thank god for the paxil and buspar..feelin great

Going through a rough period in my life right now. My doctor prescribed me 0.5 mg of Ativan. He said I could take 2 a day but to be careful because it can become habit forming. How long can I take this drug without it becoming habit forming? I also take Zoloft 50 mg. I used to use the Ativan only very occaisionally when I felt overly anxious, but now because of life changes I feel I need it daily right now. I do not get panic attacks, just anxiety and upset. Thanks.

I truly don’t understand doctors. They will put you on an antidepressant in a heartbeat but are terrified of a benzo. SSRIs are habit forming, in my opinion. You have to taper off of them just like you would a benzo. Perhaps Margrove can help you here. Vicki
