think i might be having panic attacks
Question:
Jason, I also believe meds can help immensely to relieve you of sp and its symptoms. They can help to reduce, and if you’re lucky even eliminate, panic attacks. But there are no guarantees that panic attacks will not come back. As you know, the severity of your sp, how meds affect you, etc. all come into play. Also, sadly, something like 10 to 15% of people with sp don’t find any relief at all. I cannot quote the source of that statistic; it’s from one of the anxiety web sites. Yeah, I agree with everyone else: go see a good doctor and explain what you are going through, and he should give you some medication that will help. Xanax helped for me when I had panic attacks, and yes, they can go away. I still have anxiety, but I haven’t had a panic attack in *years* even with recent changes at work with people getting on my back
Anyway, get the correct meds and meanwhile practice taking the thoughts of danger out of your head. Keep telling yourself "its distressing but not dangerous". At first it won’t do very much and you’ll still go through panic attacks but its very important to keep telling yourself this *while* you are going through them and this will give effect after awhile. It takes time for it to sink in and have effect but it will happen sooner or later and one day you will be *panic attack free*. Meanwhile, get the right meds ok
Bye the way, also remember that no one has ever died from a panic attack (unless the person had really bad heart problems, and most of us who had panic attacks thought they did but doctors kept checking us out and telling us "you healthy man, go home") . Its just that your mind and body believe it is in *extreme danger*, but its *not*. So see a good doctor and he’ll help you out. Jason

I don’t think your employer has to know, does he?? I thought this was supposed to be private. There are lots of different medications you can try- anti-depressants, MAOI’s, clonazepam >I have been on atenolol for 14 yrs. thought it was my heart they say no. >many symptoms everyone here describes. what do I do I don’t want employer to >know but I have medical through job. sometimes cant go to work call in sick

who prescribes the atenodol for you, ?? Go back to him/her and tell them what’s going on and maybe get a med change or adjustment. I know how you feel about the work thing, I done that many times in the past. But not so much since I got on the proper meds for me. Pam
