zoloft to paxil?
Question:
In article Sorry to change the topic a bit, but how long did it take you for Zoloft to stop the Panic Attacks? Sounds like 2 weeks…Glad to hear it as I have 1 1/2 weeks to go…
yes, it did start working pretty quickly. It’s the first time in my life that I feel like that knot in my stomach from worrying about when/where the next PA will hit is gone. good luck with it, I hope it works as well for you as it does for me!
Response:
Different for every person, but yes it did for me. Also makes ya into the energizer bunny when you do get the desire tho.
Without being real crude, you can go forever, sometimes you can’t at all tho, which is no good. Still impresses the girlies tho.
But for a lot of people the switch does help/solve the problem, and from what I hear there is a new anti-depressant drug that has less side affects than most, especial on the sexual side. Stephen Wight
– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – my Dr just switched my medication from Zoloft (100mg/day) to Paxil 20 mg/day. I have been on the Zoloft for about 10 weeks, and it’s been the best 10 weeks of my life! Not one PA in the past 8 weeks. Why didn’t I try this years ago?! The only side effect I have is no desire for sex at all! So, my Dr suggested we try the Paxil and see if it helps. If not, then she said we may try Serzone. Question… does Paxil kill the desire for sex like Zoloft? And how is Serzone for PA’s, and is it any better for the old sex life than the others? Thanks!

Well, strange things do happen, but your doc is switching you from a med that seems to have the second best sexual dysfunction profile to the med with the worst profile. And how is Serzone for PA’s, and is it any better for the old sex life than the others?
It appears to have less of an effect, but then that also seems to apply to its ability to stop PAs :-( Thanks!
I reposted something about sexual dysfunction only a few days ago, which gives some suggestions on how to lessen this side effect. Look for " Repost: Antidepressants and sexual dysfunction – some suggestions" E me if you can’t find it and I’ll forward a copy. ian

Your doctor is a star! About the only med with a worse track record than Zoloft regarding sexual dysfunction is Paxil! I wouldn’t try it if I were you. All SSRI’s can cause this but Luvox seems to have the lowest profile here. Serzone is not associated with sexual dysfunction but unfortunately it isn’t associated with great success in the treatment of PD either. The following three possibilities spring to mind: – As Zoloft works so well for you, stay on it and add the herb Ginko Biloba or a low dose of either Wellbutrin or Buspar which are worthless for PD on their own but for some succesfully counteract drug-induced sexual dsyfunction. There is no guarantee that this works, there is anecdotal evidence for both positive and negative effect. – Replace Zoloft by either Luvox or a TCA like imipramine or desipramine. These AD’s have a somewhat lower incidence of sexual dysfunction – Skip the AD’s and go the benzo route, for instance: Klonopin as maintenance med and Xanax for breakthrough attacks. No sexual problems are to be expected. Philip

I’d have to agree with Jason. The first couple of months on Paxil, orgasm was delayed for me. Then, a few more months with no orgasm at all. This culminated with a total lack of sex drive. I did not care if I had sex or not, in fact, i had 0 desire. I then tried substituting St J’s Wort and weaned off the Paxil. The side effects sucked bad. Damn brain shivvers!!!! Anyway, my symptoms have now come back and I’m giveing Zoloft a try. This is my experience only. You may have better luck with Paxil. The stuff worked, but the sexual dys was too much for me. Paxil has a slightly worse record of sexual dysfunction than Zoloft, but give it a try anyway. As it may be what works for you without the side effects. Good Luck. C.Z. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Luly From a guys perspective, I have to say that Paxil definitely kills your desire for sex. I have been on 20mgs for the past few weeks and I can not orgasm during sex. Ejaculation is gone. When I reduce to 10mgs per day, the problems subsides, but the anxiety returns. It is a hard trade off to choose. I love sex but I love being panic free. I am hoping to try something different (a new drug that is) to regain my sexuality. I guess its back to the doctor. My husband has been on SSRI’s for pain management for about a year. Tried zoloft, then paxil then serezone, they have all had the same effect where he can’t orgasm. It’s a trade-off I guess sometimes, but it helps his ongoing pain and allows him to function. He did go off it for about a month then back on again, one week off and he was back to normal, so it’s definitely the SSRI’s. Mar
